2016 Panini Absolute |

These "etched glass" cards first appeared in the 2015-16 Panini Absolute basketball set, and they eventually found their way into the 2016 Panini Absolute football set as well. They are described as laser etched crystal cards, and the cards are reminiscent of those incredibly overpriced etched-glass souvenir paper-weights that you'd buy at Disneyland (see below). Anyway, I assume that it's basically the same technology being used to create these Panini Absolute Glass "cards". Some collectors may find these glass cards to be a great new addition to the hobby, but I lump them together with those Highland Mint metal cards of Montana that were produced back in 1992. If I can't fit the card into a regular 9-card plastic sheet, it just kind of ticks me off and I can't get real excited about it. |
